Everything You Missed During PlayStation's January's State of Play

What were you most excited to see?
by Natalie Collazo on February 01, 2024

PlayStation's State of Play today showed of several unexpected titles and revealed more about highly-anticipated ones. In all honesty, we were more excited about seeing anything about Death Stranding 2. We definitely got a lot more than we expected from Hideo Kojima! Let's dive into all of the announcements!

Helldivers 2

Do you remember Helldivers? Originally a top-down shooter, its sequel boasts a much different, third-person gameplay style. It looks like you'll be able to customize your character and your ship in-game. Fighting against giant bugs with your friends never made you feel so alive. It comes out on February 8 of this year for PC and PS5.

Dave the Diver

The acclaimed indie game of last year will be hitting PlayStation consoles in April. For some reason, Godzilla content was also announced to be released in May. Hopefully, we will hear more about this DLC as time passes.

Sonic x Shadow Generations

The thirst for Shadow the Hedgehog will definitely be on the rise this year. The remake for Sonic Generations, Sonic x Shadow Generations, is coming this Fall. The original was released 14 years ago and, for some reason, Sega decided that now was the time to bring it back. It's possible that the films brought a newfound love for the character, but there are plenty of other games that could have been remade.

Judas

Ken Levine of Bioshock fame finally announces Judas by his studio, Ghost Story. The narrative, sci-fi shooter is a weird turn, but what else were you expecting? The game takes place on the Mayflower, a space city where robots control everything and humans turn against one another. There was no release date given, but it will be available for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.

Metro Awakening VR

The Metro series by Deep Silver is well-known among post-apocalyptic fans. The most recent release, Metro Exodus, will be getting a VR spinoff called Metro Awakening. We can expect it sometime later this year.

Rise of the Ronin

Rise of the Ronin isn't a new announcement, but we got to see a new trailer. The game will be released on March 22 of this year.

Until Dawn

Until Dawn is a cult classic, and there have been rumors of a film being made about it. It stars actors Rami Malek and Hayden Panetierre in a completely motion-captured horror game. The remake will be coming later this year for both PS5 and PC.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

After so long, we finally get the name of Death Stranding's sequel: Death Stranding: On the Beach. A new trailer shows off how weird the game is with the addition of the pod baby again. Of course, we are expecting a completely moving game that will bring us to tears as the last one did. It isn't going to be launching this year, but that doesn't make any announcements less exciting. We can expect Dead Stranding 2: On the Beach sometime in 2025.

Silent Hill: The Message

A new Silent  Hill game dropped completely free on the PS5 during the show. It was originally teased back in 2022, but it looks like everything we saw was true. You can boot this game up and meet the new protagonists Maya and Anita right now.

PHYSINT

A new action espionage game that isn't Metal Gear Solid was announced by Kojima. The game, whose working title is PHYSINT, is the third original IP from Kojima Productions. In a tweet, he explains that the game will be the next level of "digital entertainment" and could be called a "movie."
