Darkest Dungeon 2 is Going to be in 3D

What to expect in Darkest Dungeon 2: Road to Ruin

Darkest Dungeon 2: Road to Ruin

Darkest Dungeon was one of the most unexpected hits of the past decade. At its core, its a pretty straightforward RPG that gives you the most cliched character tropes imaginable and pits them against the forces of evil. We've seen that before right? I mean, the graphics were nothing spectacular either, so why was this such a huge success? Subversion is the keyword here and while everyone hates that word most of the time in the gaming world, with Darkest Dungeon it is what led to its brilliance. You see these cartoony-looking characters with their warped heights and features and think this is gonna be a light-hearted RPG right? Those expectations disappear the first time an enemy rips into one of them splashing their blood across the screen and from there, the tone is set and suddenly that art style in the graphics becomes incredibly engaging as you level up and lose one character after another to the terrors that await in the dungeons. It takes a lot to label a game brilliant, but Darkest Dungeon personifies that word if any game ever has.

With all that being said, the sequel, Darkest Dungeon 2: Road to Ruin is looking to shake things up a bit by introducing a 3D perspective into the mix. According to the trailer that's been released, this seems like it will strictly only affect cutscenes and the interludes with you and your team at campfires during your time in the dungeons. In addition to this, the open-world being presented here looks to be in 3D as well as footage of your carriage traveling around is shown in the trailer as a brand new-looking addition to the gameplay. Darkest Dungeon 32: Road to Ruin looks to build on what was already a masterpiece by adding a more focused story along with several new character classes and tons of completely new enemies for you to take down as well. It's definitely one of those don't fix what isn't broken kind of games, but that doesn't mean it's infallible so whatever updates can be made to the formula to ensure a better gameplay experience this time around. Darkest Dungeon 2: Road to Ruin releases today on 10/26/2021.
