Call of Duty Vanguard Will Be Significantly Smaller than Others

Vanguard's tech reduces game size

Call of Duty has in many ways become the most iconic gaming franchise of the past 10+ years and over the past year or so with everyone being forced inside from the pandemic, arguably the greatest solace in the world of gaming and social connection has been the advent of Call of Duty: Warzone. Warzone has been such an incredible revelation in the gaming world that it's become a cultural phenom the likes of something like Fortnite has only reached. Unfortunately though for players who own both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone, the size requirement in terms of storage you will need to run those games is absolutely astronomical. You're looking at north of 140 GB which is about the size of 4 games usually just to house these monstrosities on your system. Part of it makes sense is it is a constantly updating game that has new content all the time, but part of me thinks it just influences you into deleting other games and focusing your attention on there's in particular.

Despite this though, there are multiple reports that hard drives will finally get a bit of a break with Call of Duty: Vanguard as the game space needed is going to be significantly less than the above-mentioned number. The reason for this is the "new on-demand texture streaming tech.". With this technology, all of those pretty graphics and high-quality textures can be created on the fly instead of being downloaded onto the system and this will reportedly save 30%-50% on next-gen consoles as well as PCs. For current-gen owners, it still should be smaller than the usual Call of Duty games.

The initial size of the games is usually not the problem as it's the battle royale expansion that really takes up all the space here. With every new season that comes with these games, the size of the game gets bigger and bigger and if you managed to have Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War installed alongside Warzone this year, you were looking at almost 200 GB+ of space you'd have had to come up with. To say it's unreasonable is an understatement and hopefully, these new advancements will shrink these sizes.

Keep in mind that even though the game's size will be lessened on launch, expect that to grow exponentially as the updates will always be on the way. We will find out how big these sizes will be on November 5th, 2021.
