PlayStation’s Game Pass Rival, Spartacus, to Unveil

Sony will reportedly combine PS Plus and PS Now in their new service
by Joe Wilcock on March 25, 2022

Bloomberg has revealed that Sony’s rivalling game subscription service will combine the already established PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now into a 3 tiered payment model. It is reported that it could be announced as early as next week.

Code-named “Spartacus”, the new subscription programme will be split into 3 facets. Essential ($10), Extra ($13) and Premium ($16).

Its code name is somewhat ironic. Although only a placeholder name, the service won’t offer first-party launch titles such as God of War: Ragnarök like the Xbox Game Pass provides. Instead, they will lean on their illustrious library of retro games, depending on what tier you opt-in for.

The crux of the matter boils down to what’s more enticing: a rich backlog of exclusive titles versus access to new games. If Sony can offer their full array of exclusives like Ratchet and Clank, God of War, Jak and Daxter, Shadow of the Colossus, The Last of Us, Uncharted, Persona, Grand Turismo, Horizon and Infamous just to name a few then this new service could be a game-changer. But time will tell what they will offer and when.
