Marvel’s Midnight Suns Receives a Mature Rating In Australia

Violence, adult language, drug use, sex, and mild nudity will all be on show
by Joe Wilcock on May 04, 2022

The Australian Classification comity has deemed it fit to award Marvel’s Midnight Suns a Mature rating, indicating that the game may be closer to release than we first imagined. It also suggests that it will offer a darker spin on the license, the likes of which we’ve seldom seen. Only Deadpool and The Punisher have received an M rating under the Marvel name, and rightfully so.

Originally slated for a March 2022 release, the new Firaxis game has been pushed back to the second half of the year, with the exact date still unknown. But, the mere fact that it has received a preliminary age rating tells us that the game is far enough along to be judged for its maturity. Firaxis still has time to tinker if they desire a more accessible rating, as is the standard for the age rating process.

For now, the reasoning for its M rating is as follows. Each category is rated out of 6, 1 being the most child friendly and 6 being the least. Anything above 4 is considered Mature:

  • Themes (4/6)
  • Violence (4/6)
  • Language (3/6)
  • Drug Use (3/6)
  • Nudity (2/6)
  • Sex (3/6)

Marvel’s Midnight Suns will allow players to create their own hero, known as “The Hunter”, to team up with famous characters such as Dr. Strange, Iron-Man, Blade, Wolverine, Captain Marvel, and Ghost Rider just to name a few. As it’s a Firaxis game, it will play much like the XCOM series but with a card-based mechanic that will dictate the actions players can use during their turn.

Fans will hope they can get their hands on the newest Marvel title sooner rather than later, and if this news is anything to go by, it won’t be too long.
