Techland Teases Latest Project from Ex-Witcher Developers

‘An original new fantasy epic set in a sprawling open world.'
by Natalie Collazo on May 17, 2022

The developer of the critically-acclaimed Dying Light 2 have officially teased their upcoming project as well as those who are behind the official development. The team consists of those who lent their talents to projects like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. The new game, which has remained untitled, is set to be an epic fantasy role-playing adventure in an incredible open world. Similar to previous announcements from developers like Infinity Ward who teased and announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 a few weeks ago, all that was released was a single image of concept art.

Hopefully, like Modern Warfare, we will hear more in the coming weeks but considering the fact that we didn't get much more than we did, that is highly unlikely. The list of names that are in connection with the new project are:

  • Karolina Shachyra - wrote the Bloody Baron questline (among others) for The Witcher 3
  • Bartosz Ochman - open world director for Cyberpunk 2077
  • Arkadiusz Borowik - narrative lead for The Witcher 3
  • Kevin Quaid - lead animator for Horizon Zero Dawn
  • David McClure - lead game designer for Deathloop
  • Mario Maltezos - creative director for Mad Max and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

The project is a completely new IP for the team but sounds promising considering those behind it. Techland CEO Pawel Marchewka said of the game,

“Our ambition is to introduce a brand new IP that is vastly different from what we have been doing for the past several years. We want to create a fully next-gen experience. A new fantasy epic set in a sprawling open world, fueled by the skills and experience we have gained as a team over the years, infused with new ideas, passion, and creativity. While we cannot share more details about this project now, we’re all truly invested in it and looking forward to showing it to gamers when the time is right.”
