DICE is Officially 'Winding Down' Development for Hazard Zone in Battlefield 2042

The game just can't catch a break.

Battlefield 2042 - Hazard Zone mode revealed - Gematsu

The release of Battlefield 2042 just hasn't gone very smoothly and just about every announcement made seems to be proof of that. The game's latest development was announced earlier today in the form of a blog post that goes over the direction that the team would like to take moving forward. The entire post shares Battlefield 2042's next season and all of the features and upgrades that players can expect to see in the near future. Considering the fact that these updates were in direct relation to the different modes that fans can enjoy, they took the time to share that there are no plans to continue working on Hazard Zone.

One final piece of news for you to take away from today’s video - we’re winding down future development on Hazard Zone. All of us on the team had great ambition and high hopes for this new Battlefield experience throughout our development, but we’re the first to hold our hands up and acknowledge that it hasn’t found the right home in Battlefield 2042 and that we’ll benefit greatly from letting our focus and energy stay on the modes we see you engaging most with.

The mode sends squads of four out to recover data from different crashed satellites all with the intention of making it out alive. The mode takes inspiration from other gameslike Hunt: Showdown and is probably one of the most interesting modes introduced to the series as of late.

The announcement doesn't come as much of a surprise considering that there's no reason for the developer to work on it if no one is really playing it. However, this mode launched with the game as one of the main modes that players can enjoy and now it won't be receiving any more updates. Hopefully, we will see quality of life updates that genuinely change the game to become the version that DICE intended it to be, but their track record has only struck out as of late.
