Blizzard Ends Heroes of the Storm Development

It was released to combat League of Legends
by Natalie Collazo on July 09, 2022

Heroes of the Storm review | PC Gamer

New content being developed for Heroes of the Storm has come to a definite halt. Blizzard officially announced today that the game will still be updated to fix bugs and keep it running smoothly but will no longer be providing new content. This was shared in a blog post in which Blizard commended players for their lasting dedication to the game and is gifting everyone a rare Epic Arcane Lizard mount. The game was introduced in 2015 to combat other popular MOBAs at the time similar to games like League of Legends. Players were able to choose from different iconic Blizzard characters and battle against other teams to play different game modes. As part of the updates that will be provided moving forward, seasonal and hero rotations will still happen and players will still have access to the in-game store in order to purchase items. They can just no longer expect new content to roll out.

This isn't necessarily news considering that Blizzard had announced back in 2018 that they had planned to scale down development for the game. This could very well be due to the fact that several other games are of importance in their library including the upcoming Overwatch 2 as well as Diablo IV. They have also released a mobile version of Diablo titled Diablo: Immortal which has also done incredibly well since its launch earlier this year. Hopefully, this news is more of a good sign than a bad one but this still comes fresh off the heels of CEO Bobby Kotick's sexual abuse allegations that still plague the company name.
