The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Delayed

Just a month before it’s due to launch
by Joe Wilcock on July 27, 2022

After initially announcing The Lord of the Rings: Gollum in 2019, Daedalic Entertainment intended to release the game sometime in 2021 but after Nacon took on the publishing responsibilities, merging with Daedalic, Gollum was pushed back to 2022. Seemingly ready for a September 1st release, Nacon and Daedalic have decided to delay the game further, if only by a few months.

“During the past several years, the team has been working hard to share our vision of a remarkable story, set in a breathtaking world, filled with magic and wonder. We are dedicated to meeting our community’s expectations and uncovering the untold story of Gollum in a way that honors the vision of J.R.R. Tolkien.

That being said, in order to deliver the best possible experience, we have decided to push the release of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum by a few months. We’ll update with an exact timing in the near future.”

- Daedalic

Despite developing over 34 games and publishing many more, Daedalic still doesn’t bring any real pedigree or clout to the table. The delay may even be a result of the criticism directed at the Gollum trailers, in particular the most recent one. Of course, some things can improve and get rectified in a few months but others can’t. The subpar graphics need some more work, especially Gollum’s hair and how it looks in motion but it’s highly unlikely his voice will change, another aspect highlighted by the hoards online. The game may coast if the gameplay is solid, but the trailers shown so far indicate that this project will definitely benefit from a delay… or two.
