Hogwarts Legacy Will Not Include Playable Quidditch

It still seems as though players will be able to ride on brooms

Hogwarts Legacy Collector's Edition Windows - Best Buy

For fans of the Harry Potter franchise, Hogwarts Legacy looks to be the definitive gaming experience. You're tasked with creating your own character and delving into the world of Hogwarts in an entirely new narrative story. You'll experience life as a student and meet new peers from other houses as well as learn spells and attend classes. Everything you could have ever hoped for as part of your wizarding experience seems to be playable from the moment you start the game: except for Quidditch.

Quidditch is a game from within the Harry Potter universe that is very similar to the idea of soccer. Players are put into teams where they go against each other to score points by hitting balls into goals with a bat. While this is happening, another player, known as the Seeker, is tasked with scouring the playing field in order to find a small, golden ball known as the Snitch. The goal of the game is to protect your Seeker so that they can catch the Snitch and win the game for that team. Considering this, games such as Quidditch World Cup were released as a direct result of the popularity of the fictional sport. Even titles like Harry Potter: The Chamber of Secrets had gameplay elements that allowed you to play the game as well in between classes.

While there doesn't seem to be a direct reason as to why the sport is being included, it does look as though you'll still be able to fly on a broom as shown in gameplay trailers. It looks like events such as broom challenges and general traversal will still be an option for players but it doesn't look like the idea of playing Quidditch will be in the cards for players.

Hogwarts Legacy itself is a new game with a story separate from the mind of JK Rowling. The author has recently been scrutinized for her opinions on the trans community as well as general ignorance throughout her professional life. She is not involved in the project at all and the developers have acknowledged this information while still working closely with her team to develop the game as we know it now. Whether the team at Portkey Games agrees with these viewpoints or if any aspect that was deemed negative will be included in the final product for Hogwarts Legacy has yet to be seen. Players will have to see for themselves when the game launches on February 7.
