Nintendo OLED Switch Coming This Fall

Not Quite the Switch Pro Fans Were Expecting
by Oliver VanDervoort on July 07, 2021

Nintendo announced that a new Switch is coming this fall, but it's not what some fans expected.

The company announced that a new Switch is coming later this fall, and it's going to sport a brand new OLED screen.

The new 7-inch screen also comes with a slimmer bezel. According to Nintendo, "the large screen's vivid colors and high contrast deliver a rich handheld and tabletop gaming experience, bringing games to life whether you're racing at top speed or squaring off against enemies."

This new model also features a more stable, expanded, and adjustable stand.

The final big improvement is that the Switch OLED's dock comes with a LAN port that will allow people to get internet if their WiFi isn't all that powerful.

This new version is coming on October 8, though there are some who were disappointed that the new model doesn't have 4K or an improved processor. However, while those particular improvements aren't arriving, there is one more way the Switch OLED model is getting an upgrade. This version of the console features 64 GB of internal memory. That's double what the current models offer. Of course, users who don't think 64 GB is enough can still buy expandable memory cards, but the expanded memory should save users a bit of cash.

Whether or not an actual Switch Pro is coming at some point is another question. It seems unlikely such a model will arrive before the end of 2022 at the earliest and more likely in 2023.
