Battlefield 2042 Will Be Getting Fan Favorite Maps

Fan-favorite maps are set to make a return in Battlefield 2042
by Luke Luby on July 09, 2021

It was teased several days ago that Ripple Effect Studios, a rebranded version of DICE LA, would be workin on a "player-inspired experience" related to Battlefield 2042. It looks as though that will be multiplayer-focused content that helps create an "experience" for players. One of the most notable additions that will come to the game from the developer? Fan favorite maps from the franchise.

The initial announcement of content for the game came as the studio announced its rebranding. As general manager Christian Grass stated at the time:

"We're so proud of our work as DICE LA and the DICE team will forever be a part of our DNA, but over the past eight years, we've developed our own culture and our own way of doing things. We're excited to look towards the future, expand the team and establish our own identity."

In a subsequent update, however, Ripple Effect Studios expanded on what it would be bringing to Battlefield 2042. As Mr. Grass notes:

"I can't say that much about it. What I can say is that one of the components of this experience that we're creating is that we're adding some of the fan-favorite maps back into Battlefield 2042, but for the entire experience, you'll have to wait a bit longer before we reveal what that is.

Some of the original announced plans, which are still expected to come, include All-Out Warfare, which encompasses the big battles of Conquest and Breakthrough, and Hazard Zone, which is focused on squad-based action. There's also been a mystery mode teased, although it's unclear what that could be.

The one thing that is known about the mode is that it isn't going to be a battle royale. Publisher Electronic Arts has previously expressed that it wouldn't be bringing such a mode to Battlefield 2042. When the new content is expected to land remains unclear.
