Deathloop Devs Detail PS5 Features

Next gen haptic feedback and other offerings on the table
by Oliver VanDervoort on September 03, 2021

Deathloop developers Arkane recently shed some light on just what people can expect when they boot the game up later this month.

The game is eventually going to be landing on both the Xbox Series X/S and the PS5, but Sony's console gets first crack for the next year.

Arkane laid out that Deathloop is aiming for "stunning visuals" using the PS5's added horsepower, and it will also be making use of the console's unique DualSense controller.

The DualSense controller's adaptive triggers will be used to make sure every Deathloop gun "feels unique," with the resistance players feel in the triggers adapting for each weapon. This is a feature that several PS5 games have attempted and the results have been hit or miss. However, there is an addition to the feature that could make this game a solid "hit" in that regard.

On occasion, guns will get jammed, and players will feel that in the adaptive triggers as well. Just how that's going to feel isn't something Arkane can describe so much as wait until players experience it first hand.

The feedback will also reflect movement.

Players will seemingly be able to feel main character Colt's footsteps. If Colt is running, the haptic feedback will be more intense, but if Colt is slowly sneaking up on an enemy, it slows down. Colt's other movements will also be reflected in haptic feedback, like when he slides across the floor.
