SG Esports Release Dota 2 Roster

SG esports are close to signing a new Dota 2 roster
by Tit Krajnik on October 21, 2021

On Wednesday, October 20, SG esports announced the departure of its entire Dota 2 roster as the South American esports organization looks to start fresh. The announcement follows SG esports' disappointing performance at The International 10.

SG Esports Look For A Fresh Start

By cutting ties with the entire Dota 2 lineup, SG esports are determined to turn over a new leaf and enter the 2022 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season with a new roster. The announcement, while a big one, isn't surprising for several reasons.

The post-TI era is notorious for roster changes, as many esports organizations start freshening up their lineups. However, this year, the South American region became known as the most active region for roster shuffles.

Earlier this week, both NoPing e-sports and Thunder Predator announced that they're cutting ties with their Dota 2 rosters. This makes SG esports the third top team from the region that will no longer continue with their 2021 lineup.

"We would like to inform that by the decision of the players, the current SG esports Dota 2 lineup will not be maintained for the next season. It was a long journey of learning and evolution until we reached The International 10," read the announcement.

"We are grateful to the entire team that believed in the project and invested time and effort for the growth of the national scene and we wish all players success in their trajectories."

SG esports attended The International 10 as one of the South American representatives, and while the expectations weren't high, SG esports still underdelivered. They finished the tournament in last place, with a 1-0-7 record.

Their only tournament win came against Fnatic, who they surprised during the second day of the group stage. However, outside of that upset, SG esports failed to show up and lost the remaining seven bouts against Team Spirit, Elephant, Quincy Crew, beastcoast, Vici Gaming, and the two TI10 finalists in PSG.LGD and Team Spirit.

What's Next for SG Esports?

The South American esports organization has yet to share their plans for the future, but it was revealed that SG esports are currently looking for new players to sign. According to the announcement, SG esports are negotiating contracts with a new roster; however, the organization refrained from sharing further details.

"The new Dota 2 line will be announced as soon as negotiations are concluded. We count on the support of everyone who believes in us and for future achievements and for the continuity of our project."

Even though SG esports has not revealed the roster the organization is in contact with, it wouldn't be too surprising if the team decides to sign Thunder Predator's former Dota 2 lineup. TP parted ways with their roster on Saturday, October 16, and have since signed a new lineup, formerly of NoPing e-sports.

This leaves Alonso "Mnz" León, Leonardo "LeoStyle-" Sifuentes, Frank "Frank" Arias, Joel Mori "MoOz" Ozambela, and Romel "Mjz" Quinteros without a team and available for pickup by SG esports. Whether SG esports decide to sign the ex-TP roster is anyone's guess, but it would make sense for the Brazilian esports organization to sign a lineup from their region.
