Fnatic Bench Tex and Stigs

Fnatic look to start fresh
by Tit Krajnik on October 26, 2021

Tex "Tex" Thompson and Riley "Stigs" Mills have been benched from Fnatic Rainbow Six Siege roster on Monday, October 26, following the team's disappointing performance in the Asian-Pacific League.

Fnatic Look at New Options

Fnatic announced the benching of Stigs and Tex on Twitter and with a post on the organization's website. The decision follows Fnatic's poor performances in October, failing to finish higher than fifth at APAC North 2021 - Stage 3 and the APAC League 2021 - North division.

"Stigs and Tex have been moved to the inactive roster. We want to thank them for their time and efforts these last two years, helping secure Fnatic as a staple and memorable presence in the R6 APAC division," read the announcement.

Fnatic revealed that they'd explore new options for their Rainbow Six Siege starting lineup in the coming months and build a strong foundation to get closer to the results they desire and expect in 2022.

With the benching of Tex and Stigs, Fnatic now field a four-man lineup, featuring  Léo "Alphama" Robine, Patrick "MentalistC" Fan, Etienne "Mag" Rousseau, and Jason "Lusty" Chen, who has been moved to the sixth-man position ahead of Stage 3.

It is currently unclear whether Lusty will return to the main roster to fill in the gaps. However, as noted by Fnatic head coach Jayden "Dizzle" Saunders, the organization will look to sell Tex and Stigs or keep them on the bench until their contracts expire.

Future Plans For Fnatic

Fnatic have yet to comment on how the team will approach rebuilding their R6S roster; however, with their ongoing efforts to relocate to Japan, the British esports organization feels hopeful that 2022 will be a year of development and success.

It is also unclear whether the team will look to sing two more players to continue Fnatic's tradition of fielding a six-man roster. Fnatic could do with only one new player to fill in the vacant spot, but that will depend on whether Lusty will be able to return to Fnatic's core roster.

While the departure of Tex and Stigs seems like a drastic move, Fnatic needed to change something. The team started the 2021 season with a respectable fourth-place finish in the first stage of APAC North 2021 and fifth in the playoffs.

Fnatic built on that success, ended the second stage in third place, and exited the playoffs in fourth. However, their results started to struggle from there, as Fnatic managed only two fifth-place finishes in the third stage and the APAC League 2021 - North division.

Fnatic's next game was scheduled for the Six Invitational 2022 APAC qualifiers; however, due to roster lock rules, they will either need to play with one of two coaches or compete with Lusty and either Tex and Stigs. Alternatively, Fnatic could decide to skip the qualifiers and start making plans for 2022.
