Rocket League Pro “BeastMode” Retires

Shopify Rebellion a man down early into the new season
by Tit Krajnik on October 26, 2021

Shopify Rebellion player Landon “BeastMode” Konerman has retired from the professional Rocket League. The news surfaced on Monday, October 25, when the organization confirmed BeastMode is no longer a part of their team.

An Unexpected Retirement

BeastMode has decided to retire from Rocket League at only 16 years old, and while a very unexpected decision, the community has already learned about his plans on Sunday. However, it wasn’t until this Monday when Shopify Rebellion confirmed BeastMode’s retirement.

Seeing BeastMode step away from the game at such a young age is a huge loss for the Rocket League esports scene. The 16-year-old has been widely considered as one of the top players in the North American scene and a potential future star.

At only 15-years, BeastMode has proven to the world that he is a highly mechanically talented player, with his standout plays for Kansas City Pioneers during RLCS Season X.

Even though BeastMode hasn’t won any major tournaments, he has consistently placed well in any competition he entered. That includes a runner-up finish at RLCS Season X - Fall: NA Regional Event 3 and top-eight at the RLCS Season X - Fall: NA Major.

His talent did not go unnoticed, and BeastMode got picked up by Shopify Rebellion, who acquired the young talent in April 2021. With Rebellion, BeastMode achieved plenty, including another top-eight at the spring RLCS Season X NA Major and a runner-up finish at the WePlay Esports Invitational featuring Rocket League - North America.

“We’re disappointed to share that, as of today, BeastMode will be stepping away from Shopify Rebellion and competitive Rocket League. We wish him the best in whatever he takes on next,” read Shopify Rebellion’s announcement.

“We’re currently evaluating replacement options for this split and beyond and remain wholly committed to Rocket League for the future, despite this setback.”

BeastMode commented on his retirement in a Twitlonger post, where he hasn’t revealed much but confirmed that he might return back to the professional Rocket League scene in the future.

Shopify Rebellion Continue With A Substitute

BeastMode’s retirement came at a very unfortunate time for Shopify Rebellion, who are a man down only one week into the 2021/22 RLCS season. Rebellion now face a problem as they cannot acquire a new player until December when the transfer window opens.

As a result, Rebellion have a tough decision to make. Either they pick up a new player and forfeit their RLCS points or continue with their substitute Zach “nexuhty” McClintock.

The Canadian esports organization have yet to unveil their plans; however, they’ll likely continue with nexuhty and look to sign a permanent member at the end of the year.

Rebellion have had a poor start to the 2021/22 RLCS season, finishing the North American Fall Regional Event in 12-14th place. Things didn’t improve in the events that followed, as Rebellion only managed a top-12th place finish at Hercules Tires Invitational and have failed to qualify for the second regional Fall event and the ASTRONAUTS Star Circuit Season 4 – Finals.

Due to their poor performances, Shopify Rebellion are at only 70 RLCS points, which sits them in a tied 12th-place in the North American standings. Unfortunately, with BeastMode’s retirement, it’s unlikely that Rebellion’s situation will improve anytime soon.
