Astralis Sign “blameF” and “k0nfig” to its CS:GO Roster

End of an era, but beginning of a new journey
by Tit Krajnik on November 04, 2021

Astralis announced huge roster changes on Thursday, November 4, when the Danish Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team unveiled they've signed Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke and Benjamin "blameF" Bremer as replacements for Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen, Emil "Magisk" Reif. Adding to that, Astralis unveiled Alexander "ave" Held as their new head coach, who will replace Danny "zonic" Sørensen.

End Of An Era

Every era has to end, and for the Astralis' CS:GO team their era has officially ended on Thursday. As revealed by the Danish esports organization, the team is parting ways with Magisk and dupreeh, who will get replaced by k0nfig and blameF.

With that, Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander and Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth remain as the only two players of the legendary Astralis roster that won three CS:GO Majors between 2018-2019. The change of Astralis' old guard marks one of the biggest roster moves in the history of the CS:GO competitive scene and the beginning of a new era for the Danish powerhouse.

"To eliminate the insecurities and ensure the clarity and focus, we need to create the best possible conditions for everybody on and around the team," said Kasper Hvidt, Director of Sports at Astralis.

"We add two world-class players and a new, strong coach profile who all bring a lot of energy and motivation to build on the strong Astralis legacy and to be a contender for the biggest titles again."

K0nfig and blameF join Astralis from Complexity, who they left in October, following a streak of disappointing results over the year. K0nfig has been an inactive member of Complexity since August, whereas blameF announced his departure from the North American esports organization on Friday, October 29.

Besides parting ways with durpeeh and Magisk, Astralis is also waving goodbye to the long-standing coach zonic, who has been with the organization since Astralis first entered the scene in 2016. The Danish strategist was previously at the helm of TSM, where he coached Xyp9x, dupreeh, and Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz, who was the first of Astralis' legendary core to leave the organization in April 2021.

A New Start

While seeing Astralis opt for a roster rebuild is huge news, it's hardly surprising. The Danish esports organization have made it publicly known last year that they're looking to freshen up their squad – a process that began with the addition of  Jakob "JUGi" Hansen and Patrick "es3tag" Hansen in May and June 2020, respectively.

Although neither of the two remained with the team for long, Astralis continued adding new faces to the roster, including Lucas "Bubzkji" Andersen and Philip "Lucky" Ewald in July 2020 and August 2021, respectively, who will now serve as key members in Astralis' new journey.

Meanwhile, Xyp9x and gla1ve will serve as veteran figures in the team and a strong foundation from which Astralis will build a new CS:GO squad.

"Everyone in Astralis works hard to push the boundaries of what we can accomplish and to progress every single day. We aim to win with positive energy, chins up, and chests out," said Mr Hvidt.

"That is why we extended the contracts "gla1ve" and "Xyp9x," who are both strong bearers of our culture, and that is why we chose to bring in the young talent "Lucky", when new energy was needed."

Beyond that, Astralis will count on k0nfig and blameF, who Hvidt billed as "world-class" players, to help the team reach new heights, as they as well look for a fresh start following their failed attempt to build a "juggernaut team" at Complexity.

Taking over as Astralis' new head coach is ave, who will have huge shoes to fill as he replaces the legendary zonic.

"I come with an analytical and strategic approach, with a focus to be prepared best possible, so we get the best out of each player individually and out of the team," said ave.

"I cannot promise titles from day one, but I can promise we will come top prepared and give everything we have. Each and every time we play".

Astralis' new-look squad will make its debut at BLAST Premier: Fall Finals 2021, slated for November 24-28. The tournament will feature eight teams who will duke it out in Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark, for the lion's share of the $425,000 prize pool.
