Steam Deck Will Not Support Fortnite

Now would probably be a good time to say 'Epic fail'
by Natalie Collazo on February 08, 2022

In anticipation of the release of Valve's Steam Deck later this month, many games have been announcing their compatibility with the portable platform. According to Epic CEO and founder Tim Sweeney, Fortnite will not be one of those games. When asked about Fortnite's compatibility on Twitter, he responded:

Apparently, the reason behind this was that they were not confident in their ability to combat cheating on the platform. It could very well be that there has not been enough testing to support their expectations of output. However, some users tried to combat this by comparing their own theories including the fact that Epic does not want to have their game on a rival console, to which Tim immediately replied:

Epic would be happy to put Fortnite on Steam. We wouldn't be happy to give Steam 20-30 percent of its revenue for the privilege.

So many games have already been announced to be compatible on the Steam Deck with no doubt many more to be announced throughout the month. It was revealed that there are different classification levels for Steam Deck compatibility that lets players know which games will be compatible upon its official launch and exactly how they will be playable. For now, we're expecting to see an official release on February 25 and more information as time goes on.
