Cloud9 Release Head Coach LS

A shock announcement from Cloud9
by Tit Krajnik on February 20, 2022

League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) team, Cloud9, announced the departure of head coach Nick "LS" De Cesare on Saturday, February 19. The news came out of the blue, just hours before Cloud9's next match in the LCS 2022 Spring.

A Shock Departure

Right before Cloud9's LCS match, the North American esports organization announced it had officially released LoL head coach LS, who got replaced by former assistant coach Max Waldo. The news surfaced on Cloud9's social media, but the announcement failed to provide additional details.

The LoL community at first assumed that the post was a joke. However, LS confirmed the statement, commenting that he got informed about his release just hours before but did not specify the reasoning behind his departure.

LS' departure from Cloud9 comes as a shock to many, considering the team has been producing solid results, suggesting that his sacking was not performance-related. Before yesterday, Cloud9 held a respectable 3-1 record, largely thanks to LS' unique drafting style, which he used to express his unorthodox approach to understanding the meta.

Furthermore, LS' departure makes no sense on the surface, knowing that Cloud9 built its 2022 roster with the help of the 28-year-old, who arranged the arrival of two Korean LoL players in Park "Summit" Woo-tae and Kim "Berserker" Min-cheol. Besides that, LS is close friends with the team's mid laner Ibrahim "Fudge" Allami, assistant coach Marius "Veigar v2" Aune, and his replacement, Max Waldo.

What's Next For Cloud9?

While the League community tries to decipher the reason behind Cloud9's decision to cut ties with LS, the North American team will continue with Max Waldo as the head coach. However, the former assistant did not have the best start to his coaching stint, seeing his team lose against CLG on Saturday.

As for LS, his future is uncertain, but it seems likely that he will return to making LoL content on YouTube and Twitch.

Interestingly, LS lasted just two months and 18 days at Cloud9, ending yet another coaching sting prematurely. Although he is primarily a content creator, LS had previous coaching experience at SUPA HOT CREW, Meet Your Makers, Roar, Gravity, Tempo Storm, and bbq Olivers. Unfortunately, his coaching stints never lasted for longer than six months for one reason or another.

As with all surprising departures and shock sacking of players and coaches, we might have to wait for a while longer before we get any closure on the situation. But as it stands now, LS' departure from Cloud9 is a hot topic of discussion, leaving the whole League community trying to figure out what might have happened behind the scenes to lead to this situation.
