Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster Makes Some Strange Changes

Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster removes credits from title sequence.
by Adam Braunstein on February 26, 2022

Final Fantasy VI is an interesting title when it comes to the legacy of the series. It was right after one of the most disliked games in the franchise in Final Fantasy V and right before one of the most important games in video game history in Final Fantasy VII. Final Fantasy VI was in between them, but still stood strong as one of the best titles in the series and it marked the last 2D game in the series before the game went full 3D.

The game is still incredibly unique today, with a massive cast of characters that all managed to shine and one of the best stories in the series as well. While everyone loves to talk about how awesome Sephiroth is as a villain, Final Fantasy VI’s Kefka might even be a better villain. The crazy clown is in many ways the Joker of the Final Fantasy series and with the Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster, you get to experience the madness of his plot with better graphics than ever before.

The Pixel Remasters that Square has been dishing out have gotten some mixed reviews so far, with fans claiming the original style of the titles being compromised through their crystal clear remade sprites, but some omissions have been just plain strange.

Final Fantasy VI is no stranger when it comes to that and with this remaster comes the omission of the credit sequence that helped define the opening moments of the game. In the start of the game, Terr is being escorted in a Magitek armor surrounded by several others, and from there, you march onward to a snowy little town where the story begins.

In the Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster, the credit sequence is gone, and instead, you just watch the Magitek armors march onward for two minutes with literally nothing else happening. It’s a pretty awkward sight to see. It’s not like the original intro was all that engaging, but this one just feels wrong.

Despite that, the game is absolutely gorgeous now and you can rest assured that the rest of the game is pretty much as you remember it. For players who have never experienced this gem, this is probably the best way to experience it.
