S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Renamed to Reflect Ukrainian Spelling

The update comes via a Steam update
by Natalie Collazo on March 14, 2022

It is well known that Stalker developer GSC Game World is based in the Ukrainian city of Kyiv, which is currently under attack by Russian forces. Today, the Steam page for the game was updated to change the name of the game from Heart of Chernobyl to Heart of Chornobyl, which is the Ukrainian spelling of the word.

Though there has been no comment from the developers on why this was done, it's clear that the reasoning is exactly what it is believed to be. Though the assets for the game still have the original spelling, it is probably safe to say that the new spelling will be used moving forward.

Much of the way that Ukrainian words are spelled is known to the rest of the world via the Russian pronunciation or spelling simply due to their dominance over the former. The only way to prevent this in future publications of certain words, action needs to be taken and from GSC Game World and a consumer's perspective, the name change is a bold and necessary move towards doing that.
