Nintendo Shuts Down Wii and DSi Shop

And it's apparently been down for several days.
by Natalie Collazo on March 22, 2022

Nintendo had already announced that they were planning to shut down the WiiU and 3DS eShop stores, despite fans being outright against the prospect but now according to a report from Eurogamer, both the Wii and DSi shops gave been shut down since at least March 16 with no warning from Nintendo themselves.

When you go into the Wii shop, you will immediately be met with a white screen followed by error code 209601 (the code for being unable to connect to the Wii shop) while the DSi shop provides you with error code 290502 (the code for being unable to connect to the DSi shop). While there wasn't a given date for when this was going to happen, Nintendo had announced that at some point, players will be unable to transfer games from either store.

YouTuber GameXplain released a video that visually explains what happens when you try to open up the stores for either platform.

Fans are left confused as to what this could mean for the fate of the 3DS and WiiU eShops that are set to close next year. While the DSi and Wii shops were both closed from consumers being able to make purchases several years ago, there should have still been some sort of announcement as to when the final date for that would be.

For now, check back with DailyGamer for more news about the 3DS and WiiU eShop as well as more information from Nintendo.
