PlayStation Launches New Subscription Service This June

Over 700 games plus the addition of PlayStation Now are included.
by Natalie Collazo on March 29, 2022

PlayStation has officially announced everything that will be included in the relaunch of their infamous PlayStation Plus service this coming June. The relaunch includes two additional subscription tiers that fans can choose from that add a library of PlayStation, PS3, PS4, PS5, and even PSP games to the service. Everything was detailed in a blog post but we created a breakdown of everything that each tier will include as well as their price:

PlayStation Plus Essential

This is no different than what subscribers to PlayStation Plus currently have access to. You'll have access to two free games every month, exclusive discounts, cloud storage, and multiplayer access for games that require it.

Price: $9.99 monthly / $24.99 quarterly / $59.99 yearly (US Only)

PlayStation Plus Extra

This tier includes everything from the Essential tier as well as access to 400 PS4 and PS5 games including some of the biggest blockbuster hits. PlayStation said that at the launch, they wanted to include games like Death Stranding and Returnal so who knows what else they plan to add.

Price: $14.99 monthly / $39.99 quarterly / $99.99 yearly (US Only)

PlayStation Plus Premium

This tier includes everything in the above tiers as well as access to a library of PS3, PlayStation, PS2, and PSP games as well. This is the most prestige subscription you could have and would give you access to everything that the program has to offer. You will even have the ability to play limited trials of certain games to be able to test it before purchase.

Price: $17.99 monthly / $49.99 quarterly / $119.99 yearly (US Only)

When this launches in June, fans should expect the PlayStation Now library to change completely to that of the PlayStation Plus, merging the two in preparation for the subscription tier launch.

Whether this will definitely be the competitor to Xbox Game Pass that we have all been waiting for has yet to be decided but considering the quality that PlayStation Now games have brought us, it's difficult to tell. PlayStation could very well overhaul their game streaming program and potentially mimic something closer to the model that Xbox Game Pass in time for the relaunch but it's too early to tell.

PlayStation plans to release more information as the release gets closer so there is the probability of more surprises that we have yet to hear about.
