Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Announcement Teased

The official Infinity Ward Twitter has gone dark
by Natalie Collazo on April 23, 2022

It's been no secret that the sequel to the critically acclaimed Modern Warfare 2019 reboot was in development after it was announced via a Tweet earlier this year. The official Call of Duty Twitter spoke about the future of the franchise and described the game that fans will be receiving this year as, "a sequel to MW 2019,  and being designed with new Warzone experience (both led by Infinity Ward)."

Beginning earlier today, it looks as though the official Twitter for Infinity Ward has gone dark. It is not uncommon for companies to prepare themselves like this whenever they plan on making a large announcement. The profile picture, as well as the header, have been replaced with black images that have faint shadows throughout. If you brighten the image, you can somewhat make out what looks to be Ghost hiding in the shadows though of course this won't be confirmed until later.

The game isn't set out to be a remaster of the original 2009 game but will instead follow the story that was presented to us in the 2019 reboot. There are a lot of hopes for this particular installment as it was announced that 2023 will be the first year in nearly 20 years that there will not be a proper Call of Duty entry. Whether this means that there is more on the horizon for the series or that they plan to focus more exclusively on the sequel to Modern Warfare can only be told with time. The same tweet that talked about the sequel back in February also announced that the game will be utilizing a completely new engine to power both the game as well as the Warzone mode so the latter could very well be true.
