Resident Evil 4 Remake And Release Date Confirmed

Resident Evil returns in 2023
by Natalie Collazo on June 02, 2022

A man approaches a dimly lit shack.

After much speculation and a lot of hope from fans, the remake of the critically-acclaimed Resident Evil 4 is now official. Announced today during PlayStation's State of Play show, Capcom made the reveal through a trailer that shows the game with all-new graphics and a release date of March 24, 2023. The upgrade is very much akin to the overhaul that both Resident Evil 2 and 3 received over the last few years with completely modernized graphics and gameplay.

Originally released on GameCube back in 2005, Resident Evil 4 became an entry point for a lot of fans of the series. What was originally a console exclusive ended up becoming so popular that it stretched across every available console at the time. The story follows Leon Kennedy as his adventures take him to a Spanish village in search of the president of the United States' missing daughter. Of course, not everything is at it seems as he discovered a virus that can alter a person's genetic makeup. This alters the people of the village and pins Leon against forces beyond him. You can play the original version of the game right now in VR.

Over the last several years, Resident Evil has returned with completely newfound popularity following the releases of Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and Resident Evil Village (the eighth installment). Whether any of the newer gameplay aspects like playing in first-person will be playable in this remake can't be said but it's possible. Nothing was shared about what platforms the game will be available on but it is very likely that it will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
