July’s PlayStation Plus Free Games Leak

Crash Bandicoot 4, Arcadegeddon, and Man of Medan coming to PS4 and PS5?
by Joe Wilcock on June 27, 2022

There are only two things that are certain in life: death and PlayStation Plus’ free games leaking ahead of schedule every month. As part of the PlayStation Plus Essential trio of free games, it has been reported by Dealabs that players will receive Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, Arcadegeddon, and The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan next month.

Crash and Arcadegeddon will offer both PS4 and PS5 iterations but Man of Medan will only make its PS4 version available.

Dealabs have a stellar track record when it comes to revealing PlayStation’s free monthly games, in particular, billbil-kun who has been involved in several leaks prior.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time

After Toys for Bob developed the Spyro Reignited Trilogy and ported the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy to Switch, they were entrusted with developing a brand new Crash Bandicoot game for Activision. Ingeniously titled Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, the 4th entry in the main line franchise picks up where the 3rd left off, giving fans a bonafide sequel to the classic trilogy.

It’s About Time doesn’t skip a beat, it provides an authentic Crash Bandicoot experience for the modern age and stays true to its roots all the while. However, it is curious that Sony should pick Crash Bandicoot as one of their free games, given that he’s no longer an exclusive PlayStation license. Microsoft technically owns the rights to the bandicoot nowadays via their purchase of Activision Blizzard. Nevertheless, he will be joining PlayStation’s free roster soon.

Arcadegeddon

IllFonic, the team behind Friday the 13th and Predator: Hunting Grounds, released Arcadegeddon last year to a mixed reception. It has spent most of its time in early access before its full launch which is supposed to drop later this year.

The website describes the game as an “ever-evolving multiplayer shooter [that] allows you to play solo or with up to three friends to explore multiple biomes, mini games, find hidden chests, and defeat numerous enemy types and boss levels”.

The American developers usually operate within a movie license, like the 2 aforementioned titles and the upcoming Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed. However, this game is an original IP that IllFonic intend to support in the future.

The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan

The second entry in the Dark Pictures anthology, Man of Medan pales in comparison to its predecessor, Until Dawn, but still offers that familiar story-driven experience. Released in 2019, The Man of Medan was developed after Supermassive Games realised the demand for interactive drama horror games and so put into motion a plan to release 8 games under the Dark Pictures banner.

Little Hope and House of Ashes followed thereafter but recently Supermassive Games have turned their attention to a spiritual successor to Until Dawn: The Quarry. It has been confirmed that their latest game won’t make up part of the Dark Pictures Anthology so as it stands, there are 3 games in the saga.

Crash Bandicoot 4, Man of Medan and Arcadegeddon are expected to roll out on July 4th.
