Team Empire Apex Team Will Miss ALGS Championship

Team Empire roster is denied entry into the United States
by Tit Krajnik on June 27, 2022

Russian Apex Legends team, Team Empire, announced that the roster would miss Apex Legends Global Series: 2022 Championship. The news surfaced on Monday, June 27, when the team captain Kirill "RANCHES" Rulin revealed his squad wasn't able to obtain visas to travel to the United States.

A Huge Loss

Team Empire are widely known as one o the world's best Apex Legends teams, but the Russian squad will not be able to put that to the test as they're unable to attend the season-culminating ALGS 2022 Championship. As revealed by the team captain RANCHES, Team Empire roster was unable to secure visas and is unable to travel to Raleigh to attend the $2,000,000 event.

This comes as a huge blow for the team and the tournament, which will continue without one of the main favorites. Although the event will welcome some of the world's best Apex Legends teams, Empire's absence will be noticeable.

Empire's issues likely stem from Russia's shaly international relations with nearly every country in the world. Although we likely won't get a confirmation on whether that's the case, this seems like the most likely explanation considering Empire are the only full-Russian team to be denied entry to the US.

It is also unclear whether the tournament organizers will look to replace Team Empire or whether the ALGS 2022 Championship will shift its format. However, we should get an update on the matter in the coming days.

Not The Only Absence

Team Empire's absence at the ALGS 2022 Championship is a big deal, but the Russian roster are not the only ones to get denied entry into the United States. Just a couple of weeks back, a British Apex Legends pro player Ali "Naghz" Naghawi revealed that he is unable to travel to Raleigh because of a trip to Iran nearly a decade ago.

Moreover, multiple Asia-Pacific teams have been dealing with similar issues with their players unable to travel to the United States. As a result, many APAC Apex Legends squads will compete in the tournament with substitutes.

But regardless of the visa issues, the ALGS 2022 Championship will continue as intended. The tournament will kick off on Thursday, July 7, at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina, and it will feature 40 Apex Legends teams competing for the lion's share of the $2,000,000 prize pool.
