Crownshot Receives A Two-Day Suspension Due to Offensive Remarks

BDS Academy will receive a LEC-level substitution
by Tit Krajnik on June 29, 2022

League of Legends pro player Juš "Crownshot" Marušic has been handed a two-day suspension on Wednesday, June 29, due to offensive remarks he has made during a solo-queue game. Due to the suspension, Crownshot will miss BDS Academy's upcoming two matches against Mirage Elyandra and LDLC OL.

As revealed by Riot Games, the decision to suspend Crownshot comes due to his use of "inappropriate and offensive language towards other players." It was also revealed that Crownshot's offensive behaviour happened during a solo queue game, which Team BDS confirmed in a Twitter post.

Crownshot has not commented on the situation nor revealed what language he used to earn the penalty. However, former Cloud9 head coach and a prominent LoL esports personality Nick "LS" De Cesare has said in one of his streams that Crownie received the suspension for calling someone an "ape".

In the official ruling, Riot Games stated that this was not the first time Crownshot violated rule 9.1.10 of the LEC Rulebook and had been previously warned for his negative behaviour in a solo queue environment.

"Crownie's usage of inappropriate and offensive language towards other players in the game is unacceptable and has no place in our competitive ecosystem. Additionally, Crownie has an ongoing warning for similar behavior, and a repeated offense meant we had to escalate the penalty," read the ruling.

As a result of Crownshot's suspension, BDS Academy will have to compete in the next two LFL Summer Split matches with a substitute. However, the team did not need long to find a replacement in Matthew Charles "xMatty" Coombs, the current ADC of Team BDS's LoL European Championship (LEC) team.

According to Riot, Crownshot's suspension will last until July 1, and the earliest he can return to the stage is July 6, when BDS Academy will clash with Solary in the sixth week of the LFL 2022 Summer Split.
