Forspoken Suffers Another Delay

The second delay this year
by Joe Wilcock on July 08, 2022

Originally due to release on May 24th for the PS5 and PC, Square Enix’s upcoming action RPG was pushed back for an October 11th launch earlier this year. However, via an announcement on Twitter today, it has been revealed that Forspoken will be postponed even further and won’t release until January 24th 2023.

"As a result of ongoing discussions with key partners, we have made the strategic decision to move the launch date of Forspoken to January 24, 2023. All game elements are now complete, and development is in its final polishing phase.

We would like to thank you for your continued support and patience on this journey. Your excitement for the game inspires us every day and we cannot wait to share more about Forspoken this Summer!”

- Square Enix + Luminous Productions

Known for helping to develop Final Fantasy XV, Luminous Productions is comprised of the creative talents that worked on the 15th instalment. Forspoken, known early on as Project Athia, will mark the studio's debut title. Athia maintains its relevance though as it serves as the backdrop for the game. As Frey, the game's protagonist, you are plucked from New York and “transported to the beautiful and cruel land of Athia”. Magical abilities will help Frey traverse the landscape and combat monsters as she searches for a way home.

Forspoken’s delay has paved the way for God of War Ragnarök and The Last of Us Part I to dominate conversation comes the end of the year. Ragnarök recently received a release date and will launch on 11th November, proceeded shortly by The Last of Us on 2nd September.
