by Tit Krajnik on July 21, 2022

Riot Games unveiled more information about the upcoming 2022 League of Legends World Championship, including the dates and regional seeding. As announced on Thursday, July 21, the LoL Worlds will kick off on September 29 and culminate with the finals on November 5.

The season-culminating League of Legends tournament will start with the Play-In stage in Mexico City’s Arena Esports Stadium before moving to the United States for the remainder of the championship.

The tour across the United States will begin in Madison Garden in New York City on October 7-10 and on October 13-16 for the group stage matches. The quarter-finals stage will continue at Madison Square Garden between October 20-23.

The World Championship will then head to State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, for the semi-finals on October 29-30. The grand finals, which will feature the top two teams competing for the coveted Summoner’s Cup, will be held at San Francisco’s Chase Stadium on November 5.

Besides releasing the dates of the World Championship, Riot Games also announced the seeding for the upcoming event. Out of 24 LoL teams attending the LoL World Championship, 12 will start their journey in the Play-In stage, while the other 12 will qualify directly into the group stage.

This year, the Russian League of Legends Continental League (LCL) won’t be able to send any representatives to the LoL Worlds due to travel restrictions, giving LoL European Championship (LEC) an additional seed for the event. With that, LEC is up to par with the LoL Pro League (LPL) and LoL Champions Korea (LCK) with four seeds. Meanwhile, the host league, LoL Championship Series (LCS), will stay at three seeds.

Seeding Distribution

  • China (LPL) – 4 seeds
  • Korea (LCK) – 4 seeds
  • Europe (LEC) – 4 seeds
  • North America (LCS) – 3 seeds
  • Southeast Asia (PCS) – 2 seeds
  • Vietnam (VCS) – 2 seeds
  • Brazil (CBLOL) – 1 Seed
  • Japan (LJL) – 1 Seed
