Fnatic Will Play At Arlington Major With Three Substitutes

More visa issues for Dota 2 teams
by Tit Krajnik on July 26, 2022

Fnatic have been granted a special exemption to the standard rules by PGL and will be allowed to play at the upcoming PGL Arlington Major 2022. The news follows the announcement of three Dota 2 players struggling to secure US visas.

As revealed by PGL, Fnatic Dota 2 team will be allowed to field substitutes for Marc "Raven" Fausto, Jaunuel "Jaunuel" Arcilla, and Armel "Armel" Tabios, who were unable to obtain travel visas. Meanwhile, the team captain Anucha "Jabz" Jirawong and Djardel "DJ" Mampusti are both cleared to attend the Major.

The announcement came just a day after it was revealed that Talon Esports and Fnatic had struggled to get visas for all its players. And even after exhausting all avenues, the two Dota 2 teas couldn't get their whole rosters on the plane.

As per PGL rules, the teams can only have one substitute during a Major or DPC series; however, due to the circumstances, Valve and PGL agreed to grant a special exemption to Fnatic. However, this has some precedent, knowing that Mind Games played with three substitutes during Stockholm Major, before they were disqualified.

Fnatic will not be the only team playing in Artlighton with substitutes. As per recent reports, Entity might need to find a replacement for Ivan "Pure" Moskalenko, who might struggle to get a visa due to his Russian residency.

The PGL Arlington Major 2022 kicks off on August 4, featuring 18 teams and a $500,000 prize pool. Unfortunately, it seems like it's going to be another depleted Major with many teams missing key players.
