Sony is Removing PS5’s “Accolades” Feature This Fall

“The feature hasn’t seen the level of usage we anticipated”
by Joe Wilcock on August 01, 2022

When Sony’s PlayStation 5 was released back in 2020 it did so equipped with brand new features and systems to enhance players’ experiences, particularly with each other. Amongst the debutant systems was the “accolades” mechanic, a feedback option that allowed players to gift each other a “Helpful, Welcoming, or Good Sport” rating after crossing them online.

Chances are, most players have neither given nor received any of said accolades if they’ve heard of them at all as the system slowly fades into obscurity. The lack of activity surrounding the feature has led Sony to remove it completely from the PlayStation 5 as of this Fall.

“In fall of 2022, the Accolades feature on PlayStation 5 will no longer be supported. The feature hasn’t seen the level of usage we anticipated, so we are refocusing our efforts. We encourage the community to continue to send positive messages to one another.”

- Sony

The update continues to list several other features that will be discontinued in the foreseeable future. It marks the decommission and decreased support for older generation consoles. Although some are niche, there are some notable removals on there:

Trend micro safety services on PlayStation consoles

Trend Micro has provided Kids Safety / Web Security Service to safely access the Internet with a browser on your PlayStation device, for PlayStation®3 in November 2007, for PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) in April 2009, and PS Vita® in December 2011, and will stop providing the service as of May 31, 2023.
