Malaysia Women's Dota 2 Team Wins Gold At Commonwealth Esports Championship

A historic victory for Malaysia
by Tit Krajnik on August 07, 2022

Malaysia's Dota 2 women's team defeated England in the finals on Saturday, August 6, and claimed gold in the inaugural Commonwealth Esports Championship. The Malaysian team outclassed the English squad in a best-of-three series and won 2-0.

Malaysia women's Dota 2 team craved their name ins tone as the champions of the inaugural Commonwealth Esports Championship this weekend, toppling England in the best-of-three finals. Although Stephanie "Auroraa" Lim, Tan "Shizuma" Lyn Xhin, Wong "HG" Wei Sian, Nadrah "Nada" Saufi, and Bette "iStarx" Chia faced stiff competition, they proved to be a stronger team on the day.

Finishing in third was Singapore, who defeated Australia earlier that day.

Malaysian team kicked off the series with a confident scaling Medusa composition, supported by Shizuma on Timbersaw. England managed to respond to the scaling composition and scupper Medusa for most of the match, but despite their best efforts to slow down the Malaysian squad, England had to admit defeat.

In the second game, England opted to pick Tiny, but their plan proved futile as England had no answer to Malaysia's Alchemist pick, which allowed Malaysia to again play for scaling. Although the series' final game was highly competitive, the English squad was again forced to admit defeat, handing Malaysia the historic gold medal.

Besides winning the women's Dota 2 tournament, Malaysia also took home a gold medal in Open eFootball earlier that day.

The Commonwealth Esports Championship continues today, on Sunday, August 7, with six more exciting matches across Rocket League, eFootball, and Dota 2 Open. Notably, Malaysia will have another chance of claiming a gold medal when they make an appearance in the Dota 2 Open finals, where they'll face off against England.
