New and returning features will be making their way the game next month!

New 'Splatoon 3' screenshots showcase the game's larger scale

Splatoon 3 is gearing up to be the best installment in the series with the inclusion of some new modes and features as well as a few fan favorites from previous games. If you happened to miss the latest Nintendo Direct outlining all the newest information, we've laid it all out for you below:

New and Returning NPCs Join the Fray

Lots of returning characters will be making their way to the game including Turf War judges Judd and Li'L Judd as well as the Sheldon. There were even a few glimpses of Callie and Marie from the first game making their appearance again. We also met a few new characters including Gnarly Eddy who sells headgear and Jel La Fleur who sells clothing for players to customize themselves with. The biggest announcement of them all is probably the game's newest hosts, Frye, Shiver, and Big Man the Stingray who will be taking the places of Pearl and Marina from the previous game.

Turf War Returns

Turf War has always been the main game mode of past Splatoon games but this time, there will be plenty of modes to play and make your new favorite. Anarchy Battles are a new Ranked mode where players will be able to compete against one another for rankings in rotating match types including Splat Zones, Tower Control, Rainmaker, and Clam Blitz. It looks like Anarchy Battles wins can be determined by winning five games to triumph completely or losing three games to be out. Salmon Run will also be returning with new bosses Slammin Lid, Big Shot, and King Salmonid.

Another mode titled Big Run was also announced that looks to be a monthly event where salmonids invade the city of Splatsville. The last two modes that were announced are expected to see the light of day sometime after the game's launch: League Battle and X Battle.

New and Returning Stages, Weapons, and Abilities

We got a glimpse at several of the stages that will be joining the rotation including Undertow Spillway and Haggleish Market. Older stages will be returning as well as older weapons that will shine alongside newer ones such as the Tacticooler, the Reefslider, and the Tentamissles. These weapons can be purchased from Sheldon at Ammo Knights like before but now they are attached to a currency called Cheldon Licenses. With respect to abilities, two new ones called Squid Surge and Squid Roll are being introduced to the series which will add an extra level of strategy to battles!

Lobby

Lobbies are now completely different than they were before as they will include open areas that allow you to do a variety of things. You can walk around and interact with testing areas and features including the Locker Room which is customizable per player with stickers, gear, and photos. You can share your locker with your friends and show off your personal style.

Tableturf Battle

A new trading-card game is being introduced that has players create decks based on Tetris-like shapes. The shapes represent areas that can be covered with paint and can deploy special powers for intense attacks. The game is determined by turns which means that you can take your time to implement the best strategies. There are over 150 cards to collect and you can get an in-game starter pack when you first start.

Return of the Mammalians

A new story mode titled Return of the Mammalians will be making its debut alongside the newest character, Alterna, the Fuzzy Ooze. Not much was revealed but older characters will be making their appearances again.

amiibo

What would Splatoon be without amiibo to accompany it? A blue Octoling, yellow, Octoling, and Smallfry will be joining the amiibo lineup to help do things in-game and receive rewards. You'll be able to obtain optional special gear and switch out your saved fits.

Besides that, there looks to be a large roadmap of content for the future of the game as well. Plenty of modes and new events are in the works and we'll most likely hear them as soon as the game is officially released.
