When Is Source 2 Coming To Counter-Strike: Global Offensive?

According to recent leaks, not anytime soon
by Tit Krajnik on August 12, 2022

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive community has been waiting for the long-overdue release of the Source 2 engine and with the 10th anniversary of CS:GO just around the corner, many expected something big to happen. Unfortunately, according to recent leaks, the highly-anticipated Source 2 engine will not be released anytime soon.

A prominent CS:GO leaker Gabe Followed has shed some light on the situation surrounding the release of the new game engine, stating that the game developers are working on something else, which will delay the release of Source 2. According to the recent news, Valve developers won’t celebrate the game’s 10th anniversary on Saturday, August 21, with a new engine but rather a new operation.

“Source 2 ain’t happening this month. A few days ago, I got confirmation that a few new maps was officially accepted,” said Gabe Follower.

The news has left the CS:GO community disappointed as it has been waiting for Source 2 for years. Although the new engine was first announced in 2015 as a successor to the original Source, the game developers have said little about it for the past seven years.

However, Valve is reportedly working on the new engine, namely on a few maps with Source 2, including Inferno, Italy, and Overpass. Other leaks have hinted that Source 2 could be coming into the game in October, but as it stands now, those are just rumors.

Still, October or November release date would make a lot of sense, as it coincides with Intel Extreme Masters Rio Major 2022, which is slated for October 31 – November 13 in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. So perhaps the best time to announce the long-awaited Source 2 might be after the grand finals, ahead of one of the world’s biggest CS:GO fanbases.
