Florida Mutineers Sent Entire Roster To Free Agency

Florida Mutineers looking to start fresh
by Tit Krajnik on August 16, 2022

Call of Duty League franchise Florida Mutineers could field an entirely different roster heading into the 2023 season. The team revealed all four starters are unrestricted free agents, available to get picked up by other teams.

Florida Mutineers is seemingly looking to freshen up its Call of Duty roster ahead of the 2023 CDL season, as the organization made all four of its starting players free agents. David "Davpadie" Maslowski, who joined the team in October 2021 and has since served as a substitute, is the only player still under contract for the upcoming season and remains the only player currently signed to the esports organization.

In the announcement, Florida Mutineer revealed the departure of Brendan "2ReaL" Stockdale, Cesar "Skyz" Bueno, Christian "Yeez" Faircloth, Joseph "Owakening" Conley, and Michael "MajorManiak" Szymaniak without providing any further details. However, Florida general manager OGRE2 took on Twitter to explain the situation.

As stated by OGRE2, Skyz, Owakening, and Yeez have their contracts expiring on August 22, while the organization has not exercised its option on 2Real and MajorManiak. Still, the Mutineers are expected to be in talks with the five players as well as other free agents, suggesting that some of the former members might return to the lineup.

According to recent rumours, Skyz likely won't return to the Mutineers and will instead continue his career at New York Subliners. Meanwhile, there has been no news about where Owakening could land, meaning he might re-join the organization. As for Davpadie, he could either get put into the starting lineup or continue as a substitute.

The expected roster changes follow Florida Mutineers' disappointing performance in the CDL, in which the team finished in ninth place with a 13-18 record, on the verge of qualifying for the CDL Championship. They ended the regular season with the same number of points as New York Sublibers (160) but have managed a worse map record (54-67) than the Subliners (59-61).

It marked the first time Florida Mutineers missed the playoffs, having reached the season's final stage in 2020 and 2021. Still, the Florida squad have yet to make a splash in the league, placing top-eight in 2020 and eighth in 2021.
