OpTic Texas Won't Make Roster Changes

OpTic Texas run it back
by Tit Krajnik on August 19, 2022

OpTic Texas has seemingly decided that the organization will not be making changes to its Call of Duty roster ahead of the next season. The news came shortly after it was revealed that Brandon "Dashy" Otell and Indervir "iLLeY" Dhaliwal were free agents.

Less than a day after announcing iLLeY and Dashy have entered free agency and are free to explore their options, OpTic Texas confirmed that the two CoD pro players will be a part of the team's 2023 Call of Duty League roster. It is unknown why OpTic decided to reverse its course, as it was initially believed that the team would make roster changes ahead of the next season.

However, it is possible that OpTic never had any intentions of letting iLLeY and Dashy go from the team – despite the team's underwhelming finish to the 2022 CDL season.

When it was first said that iLLeY and Dashy were on their way out of the team, the announcement shocked everyone in the CoD scene, mainly due to the players' solid performance with the team. Dashy was the finalist of the 2022 CDL MVP, while iLLeY had to miss a good portion of the season with a thumb injury but has produced solid performances for the team.

Notably, Dashy ended the season with a 1.201 KDR, with iLLeY close behind at 1.011, as the only other player on OpTic team with a positive KDR alongside Anthony "Shotzzy" Cuevas-Castro.

OpTic Texas are for now the only team to confirm their lineup for the next season, leaving the rest of the league to focus on reconstructing their CDL 2023 season. The next season has yet to have a confirmed start date; however, Activision has already announced some changes.

As stated, the 2023 CDL season will kick off sooner than the previous seasons. As noted, previous CDL seasons kicked off too late, months after the launch of the annual Call of Duty title, and by that time, all the hype surrounding the game already dies out.

So while we don't know exactly when the 2023 CDL season will begin, there is a real possibility that it will launch shortly after the release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, which is said to hit the shelves on October 28, 2022.
