London Spitfire Sign Kaan

London Spitfire bolster its OWL roster ahead of the playoffs
by Tit Krajnik on August 20, 2022

Overwatch League team London Spitfire announced the signing of flex support player Emir “Kaan” Okumus, who joined the squad on Friday, August 20. The signing comes shortly after the Spitfire announced that it was done with roster moves for the 2022 season.

Flex support player Kaan became the newest member of London Spitfire on Friday, August 20, joining an eight-man international lineup that has been doing reasonably well this season. The Spitfire are currently sitting in fifth place in the Western standings, with a 9-5 record and ten league points, which puts them on the brink of qualifying for the playoffs.

Kaan arrives at London Spitfire from Paris Eternal, who he was a part of since December 2020, but has failed to achieve anything noteworthy this year. But even though the German Overwatch pro player hasn’t had a standout performance with Paris Eternal in 2022, he was a key part of the team’s resurgent season in 2021, when Eternal placed fourth in the regular season and won Overwatch League 2020 - Summer Showdown.

Things, unfortunately, took a sudden turn for the worse this season. Paris Eternal have managed just one win since the kickoff and have put together an underwhelming 10-41 map record, which sits them in last place in the league standings with just one point to their name.

By signing Kaan, London Spitfire now field an eight-man roster that has become far more flexible, relieving some of their players from filling multiple roles. Notably, Jamie “Backbone” O’Neill has had to play multiple roles for the team, switching from DPS to flex support when needed. However, now he will no longer need to adapt to what his team needs, as London Spitfire fields three support players in Kaan, Landon “Landon” McGee, and Oliver “Admiral” Vahar.

London Spitfire will debut its new lineup on Saturday, August 20, when they face off against Houston Outlaws in the Summer Showdown qualifiers.
