Danny Takes A Break Ahead of LCS 2022 Summer Semi-Finals

Danny Steps Down From Evil Geniuses Ahead of LCS 2022 Summer Playoffs Semi-Finals
by Tit Krajnik on September 06, 2022

As revealed on Tuesday, September 6, Kyle "Danny" Sakamaki will not travel to Chicago with his team for Evil Geniuses' League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) 2022 Summer Playoffs semi-finals bout with 100 Thieves. As stated by EG CEO Nicole LaPointe Jameson, Danny has decided to take a break to focus on his mental health.

Danny stepping down from Evil Geniuses' main LoL roster comes at an unfortunate time, as the team is getting ready for the LCS 2022 Summer semi-finals. His absence will be felt, as Evil Geniuses now need to continue their quest for the LCS title without their key ADC player, who has played a vital role in the organization's success this year.

The news surfaced just four days ahead of the LCS 2022 Summer semi-finals, where EG will face 100 Thieves for a spot in the grand finals and a spot in the League of Legends World Championship 2022 group stage.

Evil Geniuses entered the LCS 2022 Summer Playoffs after topping the regular season with a 15-3 record; however, their streak of solid showing soon came to a halt, as Evil Geniuses had to admit defeat to Cloud9 in the upper bracket semi-finals. But despite that slip-up, Evil Geniuses found their stride in the lower bracket, where they defeated TSM and Team Liquid to secure a spot at LoL Worlds and continue their quest for the organization's second LCS title.

Much of the team's success so far was thanks to Danny, who has emerged as the key player of Evil Geniuses and one of the top players in the North American LoL league. Throughout the summer split regular season, Danny has averaged the highest KDA (7.54) and CS/M (9.51) among all ADC players while showcasing a deep champions pool with ten unique champions played.

The North American esports organization has yet to announce who will replace Danny on the active lineup; however, it seems likely that EG will look to promote its academy ADC Muhammed Hasan "Kaori" Sentürk.
