Undead Labs Officially Collabs With Famed Gears of War Developer on State Of Decay 3

Hopefully bringing an even darker edge to this fun and gory franchise!
by B.J. Bunneh3000 Brown on September 09, 2022

Recently, Xbox's Major Nelson managed to squeak a bit of State of Decay 3 news out of Matt Booty, Head of Microsoft Studios during a recent Xbox Podcast.

While describing upcoming projects and exciting work going on during a Seattle showcase of project progress, Matt Booty spoke of how each of Microsoft's studios are being encouraged to help each other. Specifically, in this case, Gears of War developer is helping Undead Labs with their upcoming zombie apocalypse survival game State of Decay 3.

This is particularly interesting since State of Decay 3 is being made in the new Unreal Engine 5. What that will specifically mean for the community survival third person franchise is yet to be seen however. If one were to guess, at the very least, this would mean updates to the cover system and maybe animations or movement that surrounds that concept to enhance the combat.

Unfortunately, the State of Decay 3 updates ceased there as eager zombie game enthusiasts still do not have a release date in sight for the title. Also, the last concrete update on the title was not too flattering given it was surrounding the toxic work environment and employee burnout exposed in an article by Kotaku back in late March 2022.

All news wasn't bad however. Matt Booty spoke of the steady growth in new players for State of Decay 2 given Undead Labs mantra of constantly evolving their game. Essentially, the new updates and features that are regularly added to State of Decay 2 are bascially a proving ground for features that could see new life in the sequel. Things like infestations that grow in severity, larger hordes, and so much more.

Let's hope that the toxicity is purged and the progress resumes on both games!
