VALORANT's 2023 Season Is Set To Kick Off In February

The season will start with a new international tournament in Sao Paulo

The first year of franchised Valorant circuit will begin in February 2023, with an international tournament in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The news broke out on Wednesday, September 14, providing a long-awaited announcement all Valorant fans have been waiting for,

As revealed by Riot Games, the first event of the 2023 Valorant season will showcase all 30 partnered teams and rosters ahead of the new format and will serve as a one-time kick-off event. The tournament will last for three weeks and is billed as the biggest international event Valorant has ever seen, promising an ultimate competitive experience to commemorate the start of a new season.

The tournament's winner will earn its international league an extra slot for the VALORANT Champions 2023. This is a similar approach Riot Games took with the League of Legends Mid-Season Championship, where the MSI champions earn their region an additional slot for the LoL World Championship.

Notably, under the new format, there will be just three regions in the Americas, EMEA, and Pacific, meaning that if a Japanese team wins the tournament, the entire Pacific region will be granted an additional spot for the season-culminating event.

The opening tournament of the 2023 Valorant season will also mark the first international tournament to be held in Brazil. To date, there have been four Masters and two Champions events, of which two took place in Germany and Reykjavik, while Denmark and Turkey hosted one apiece.

While the location of the event has been confirmed, it remains to be seen whether any Brazilian Valorant team will enter a partnership with Riot next year. Still, due to the success LOUD have achieved over the 2022 season, it seems likely that Brazil will have at least one team competing in the new era of the Valorant Champions Tour.
