Destiny Cheat Developer Sues Bungie in Hacking Claim

by Natalie Collazo on September 21, 2022

Pre-Order Destiny 2: Lightfall - Epic Games Store

It looks like hackers have been having a field day in the world of video games as of late. This time, though, it looks like instead of smaller developers being accused of hacking, it's a much larger developer. A group of Destiny 2 cheat developers is suing the Destiny developers over an accusation that one of their computers had been hacked into by the company. The company making the argument, AimJunkies, sells hearing software for many first-person shooters including Apex Legends and the Battlefield series. As a result of this, parent company Phoenix Digital Group has been battling several ongoing copyright lawsuits.

This time, the countersuit claims that Bungie accessed and downloaded files from the personal computer of cheat developer James May. The claims say that this happened between 2019 and 2021 and as proof, the defendants pointed to the Bungie Production Document that seems to list the names of the private files lifted from May's computer.

It's believed that the information was obtained so that the developer could conduct surveillance on the group, which cites the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act in the lawsuit. It's also been looked into that in the 2019 user agreement for Destiny 2, Bungie was not provided permission to access players; personal files. Hopefully, more information will come out of this discovery.
