Splinter Cell is one of the latest games to have a remake announced. This time, the new game will look to completely modernize the franchise while still using the original as a foundation. This information comes from a job listing at Ubisoft Toronto for a scriptwriter that can update the original game's story, "for a modern-day audience."

The new game is being developed in the Snowdrop engine which also powers games like The Division and is currently being used to build Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. It will bring to life the story of Sam Risher, a black ops agent of the US National Security Agency's secret division, Third Echelon. The ad for the position that looks the explore a new direction for the critically-acclaimed game reads as follows.

“Using the first Splinter Cell game as our foundation we are rewriting and updating the story for a modern-day audience.

We want to keep the spirit and themes of the original game while exploring our characters and the world to make them more authentic and believable.

As a Scriptwriter at Ubisoft Toronto, you will join the Narrative team and help create a cohesive and compelling narrative experience for a new audience of Splinter Cell fans.”

Realistically, it's hard to pinpoint exactly what this modernization could mean, but it's possible that particular gameplay elements will be updated. When the original game was introduced exclusively on the Xbox, fans were faced with an atmosphere and gameplay experience that captured what the developers wanted players to feel.
