Carlos Rodriguez Steps Down As G2 Esports CEO

An end of an era
by Tit Krajnik on September 23, 2022

Carlos Rodriguez has revealed that he has resigned as CEO of G2 Esports on Friday, September 23, via a short Twitter video. Rodriguez was placed on an eight-week leave earlier this week after he was seen partying with Andrew Tate in a video posted on Twitter.

Carlos Rodriguez stepping down as G2 Esports CEO is one of the most significant events in the esports world of 2022, marking an end of an era that began in 2015 when the 32-year-old founded the esports organization. As a former professional League of Legends player, Carlos Rodriguez formed G2, initially focusing on LoL as its core esports, but has since expanded his organization into other esports titles.

As of 2022, G2 Esports fields professional rosters across multiple esports titles, including Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Apex Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite, Halo Infinite Rocket League, and Valorant, and has recently signed all-women teams for both LoL and Valorant.

“I take full responsibility over everything that went on in the last few days,” said Rodriguez in the video.

“And trust me, I feel fucking destroyed about it.”

Rodriguez’s resignation came just days after being forced on an eight-week unpaid leave from his position as G2 Esports CEO, ushered in by a Twitter video that showed Rodriguez partying with a supposed human trafficker and highly controversial figure, Andrew Tate.

Rodriguez initially doubled down on his association with Tate, which sparked a massive backlash by G2 fans and other esports personalities. And ultimately, his poor handling of the situation – stating that no one will “ever be able to police my friendships” – has led him to resign from a position he had held for nearly one decade.

“What initially was a dream of mine eventually became a group of people with similar ambitions, culture, and goals. That’s something I will always look back to and be happy about,” concluded Rodriguez.

G2 Esports has yet to reveal any information regarding who will replace Rodriguez at the company. But since it’s fresh news, we can expect more details to emerge in the coming days.
