The 2023 FIFA esports season kicks off on October 17

Electronic Arts (EA) has unveiled its FIFA 2023 esports roadmap on Monday, September 26, showcasing what the upcoming season of FIFA esports will look like. And while the next season will see many changes, one of the biggest is the introduction of a new flagship tournament series.

As announced by EA, the 2023 FIFA season will begin on October 17, with the EA Sports Cup where the players repressing their esports organization and soccer clubs will compete in 2v2 competitions across three months. Among other teams, the tournament will feature Paris Saint-Germain Esports, Manchester City Esports, Complexity, and Fnatic and culminate on January 16-21, with the crowning of the new champion, who will, alongside the other finalists, advance to the FIFAe Club World Cup 2023.

“Backed by the support of world-class esports organizations and football clubs, the first-ever EA SPORTS Cup is an EA SPORTS FIFA 23 Global Series (FGS 23) monumental moment,” said VP of EA Esports, Brent Koning.

“The allure of competition combined with dynamic storytelling unfolding on the pitch will create must-watch entertainment and motivate the masses to start their own competitive journeys in EA SPORTS FIFA 23.”

Although the EA Sports Cup will sit at the forefront of the FIFA esports ecosystem expansion, it will be only a piece of the puzzle. This season’s competitive landscape will also feature other tournaments, with a structure that will allow players from 70 nations to compete in various events.

Notably, the 2023 season will welcome back the FGS 23 1v1 competition in the Road to the FIFAe World Cup 2023. The online 1v1 tournament will begin with EA Sports FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition’s release on September 27 and host various tournaments across the next 10 months.

In addition, over 30 football league partners and confederations will host tournaments as a part of the FGS 2023, including eLigue 1 Uber Eats, ePremier League, Virtual Bundesliga, eLaLiga Santander, KPN eDivisie, eMLS, eSerie A TIM, CONMEBOL eLibertadores, and the eChampions League. Notably, all FGS 2023 online qualifiers and major events are presented by PlayStation and will be played exclusively on PlayStation 5 consoles.
