Alliance Releases Its Entire Dota 2 Roster

Alliance will start fresh
by Tit Krajnik on September 30, 2022

Alliance announced the departure of its entire Dota 2 roster on Friday, September 30, as the European esports organization looks to start from scratch for the next season. The news came just a couple of weeks following Alliance's failed run at The International 2022 Western Europe Qualifier.

Alliance dropped its entire roster on Friday, according to the announcement posted on Twitter. The storied Swedish esports organization revealed that it plans to rebuild its Dota 2 team ahead of the 2023 season and start fresh.

Although a big announcement, seeing Alliance disband its Dota 2 project makes sense due to the team's lack of success in 2022. Known as one of the most successful European esports organizations, Alliance hadn't won a single event this season, while their most notable achievement came in April when Alliance placed second in DPC WEU 2021/2022 Tour 2: Division II.

Alliance haven't made much noise in the top division, placing seventh in Tour 1 and eighth in Tour 3. Elsewhere, the European squad was just as disappointing, most notably with a last-place finish at ESL One Malaysia 2022.

Yet out of all their lackluster results, Alliance's biggest disappointment came earlier this month, when they failed to make it through The International 2022: Western Europe Qualifier, where they crashed out in the first round. With that, Alliance missed out on The International 2022 for the second year in a row.

"Releasing the full roster was not a decision we made lightly, especially since we have a history of developing and overcoming struggles. To say it's not been an easy season would be the understatement of the year, but there has been much food as well. Every mistake is a chance to learn, and we've made a lot of mistakes," said Alliance CEO Jonathan "Loda" Berg.

The decision sees Yaroslav "Limitless" Parshin, Nikolay "Nikobaby" Nikolov, Aliwi "w33" Omar, Adam "Aramis" Moroz, and Andrey "Dukalis" Kurpatkin all enter free agency. While it remains to be seen what the future holds for the five players, Alliance has stated that the organization is already in the process of building a new roster that will compete in the second division of WEU DPC League next season.
