Resident Evil: Village Gets May Release Date

It's Coming To Current And Next Gen Consoles
by Oliver VanDervoort on January 29, 2021

On Thursday, Capcom finally revealed when gamers can expect to get their hands on Resident Evil: Village. Otherwise known as Resident Evil 8, the game was shown off in a new showcase by the developers. In that showcase it was revealed that the game will be coming out on May 7, 2021. It will be arriving for the Xbox One, the PS4, the Xbox Series X/S and the PS5.

All versions of the game will carry a $59.99 price tag and will have free upgrades on both the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The good news is that it doesn't appear this is a thing where users will have to wait for that upgrade to hit. This time around, all versions of the game will release at the same time. Think, Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Still, if you have a next-gen console, that's going to be the way to go for this title. This is the first game to take advantage of Capcom's next-gen RE Engine. That means Resident Evil 8 will feature ray-traced visuals, ultra-fast loading, 3D audio support, smoother frame rates, and "hyper-detailed" graphics. Expect the game to hit native 4K on both machines.

While the game isn't due out for several more months, you can still get a taste of Village's atmosphere right now, if you're a PS5 owner. Capcom released a free demo on Thursday as well. The developers said this isn't a portion of the main game's story, but rather a stand-alone mini adventure all it's own.
