No Man’s Sky Waypoint Update and Switch Port Release

"Access the universe of No Man's Sky from anywhere in update 4.0 Waypoint”
by Joe Wilcock on October 08, 2022

The demand for a Switch port of No Man’s Sky speaks volumes about its comeback story. When it was released back in 2016, it suffered a rocky start. Unfulfilled promises and false hopes pleasured its launch, but after 6 years of turmoil, No Man’s Sky release is good enough to warrant a Switch port. The new 4.0 Waypoint update will be accompanying it, which went live yesterday.

The Waypoint Update brings with it several quality-of-life enhancements as well as different modes, rewards, difficulties and campaigns. Hello Games look to widen the accessibility of No Man’s Sky, offering new ways to tailor your experience to suit your preferences.

“Access the universe of No Man's Sky from anywhere in update 4.0 Waypoint, launching for the first time on Nintendo Switch, and overhauling fundamental elements of gameplay including game modes, inventory size, and usability, milestones, journey cataloging, and much more.

Tailor every aspect of the game to your unique playstyle with custom game modes. Launch into the action quickly with an existing difficulty preset, or tinker with everything from economy to combat challenge to survival difficulty to perfect your experience."

Custom game modes are now available, allowing players to "tinker with everything from economy to combat challenge to survival difficulty", or start-up with a difficulty preset. A "Relaxed Game Mode" has also been introduced that "provides an accessible, laid-back experience of No Man’s Sky. Perfect for players who want to experience all facets of gameplay, from story to survival to combat, with reduced danger and minimal grind".

Inventory visuals have been overhauled to help juggle your material and stock and with the help of the new "Trade Rocket", players can now automatically sell goods through a summonable trading avenue.

The rest of the additions, which can be found on their blog post, are housekeeping improvements that should have been added a long time ago. However, it has come just in time for a wave of new players and potential returning ones.

No Man's Sky is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and later this year, the iPad.
