Jankos Announces Departure From G2 Esports

After five years, the "First Blood King" is looking for a new home
by Tit Krajnik on October 22, 2022

On Saturday, October 22, Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski announced that he is allowed to explore his options for the 2023 season. With the announcement, Jankos effectively confirmed the rumours of him leaving the G2 Esports League of Legends team after five years with the organization.

Rumours of Jankos leaving G2 Esports have been floating around for weeks, but nothing has been confirmed until today. Interestingly, instead of waiting for the organization to announce his departure, Janoks released a video of his own, in which he speaks about his time with G2 Esports and touches on the team's poor performance at the League of Legends World Championship 2022.

In the video, Jankos also explained that he did not want to leave G2 Esports ahead of the 2023 season; however, the organization decided to take a different path and try something new with a new jungler. But even though Jankos is leaving the team he was a part of for five years; he does not intend to retire just yet – as many believed he would.

Jankos joined G2 Esports in December 2017 and has since become a core part of the team, leading G2 Esports to unprecedented heights. With the European organization, Jankos has won five LoL European Championship (LEC) titles, the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational, and the same year helped G2 reach the finals of the LoL World Championship.

Yet despite everything Jankos has achieved as a G2 Esports player, he has come to terms with the fact that everything has to come to an end. Interestingly, Jankos seems optimistic about his future, stating that G2's decision makes a lot of sense and that this change could be good for him.

At 27 years, Jankos has already reached the years many believe should lead to retirement. However, the Polish jungler intends to continue playing at the top level, which he has proven is still more than capable of doing. Despite being one of the oldest still active professional LoL players, Jankos has an incredible season behind him and is widely regarded as one of the best junglers in Europe.

So even though Jankos' future is shrouded in mystery, it seems highly unlikely he'll enter the 2023 season as a free agent. His talent, combined with a strong brand value, will make Janoks one of the most sought-after players on the transfer market, suggesting that it's only a matter of time before the 27-year-old gets picked up by another team – either from Europe or North America.
