T1 Make Dota 2 Roster Changes After Missing The International

T1 did not waste any time after failing to qualify for The International
by Tit Krajnik on October 24, 2022

South Korean esports organization T1 unveiled the Dota 2 first team changes ahead of the 2023 season on Monday, October 24. The announcement comes just weeks after T1 failed to qualify for The International 2022.

On Monday, T1 officially announced the departure of Dota 2 head coach Park "March" Tae-won, who got cut from the team he had been a part of since October 2020. Besides parting ways with the head coach, T1 also released Carlo "Kuku" Palad and Kenny "Xepher" Deo, whose contracts ran out and are actively looking for a new team to join.

The news came just two weeks after T1 crashed out of The International 2022: Last Chance Qualifiers, where they placed fifth-sixth and thus missed out on qualifying for the season-culminating tournament. The departure of the head coach and two players now started another roster shuffle, which T1 have had many throughout the 2022 season.

T1's constant roster changes started in February when the team parted ways with  Nuengnara "23savage" Teeramahanon. Since then, T1 made changes to its team on nearly a monthly basis, most notable being the signing of former OG players Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen and Anathan "ana" Pham, who joined the team in August.

Since the signing of former The International champions, T1 have found some traction but came out short in their attempts to qualify for TI11. The team finished the Southeast Asian qualifiers in third place and bombed out of the Last Chance Qualifier in fifth-sixth.

It remains to be seen who T1 will bring in as replacements for March, Kuku, and Xepher, but we can assume that we should get more information about T1's plans in the coming weeks following the conclusion of The International in Singapore.

Meanwhile, March, Kuku, and Xepher all entered free agency and are available for any team to pick them up. Kuku has noted that he is ready to discuss a contract extension with T1 while he searches for a new team. On the other side, Xepher is likely not going to extend his stay, as he is open to relocating for the next season.

With the release of March and Kuku's and Xepher's contracts running out, T1 now fields only three players on its active Dota 2 roster in ana, Matthew "Whitemon" Filemon and Topson, with the latter only serving as a stand-in.
